The member representing Ohafia North in the Abia State House Of Assembly Hon. Mandela Obasi has drawn the attention of the Abia state government towards the ruinous gully erosion at Agu Eze along Ohafia Umuahia Federal highway which has encroached into the road and called for urgent drastic action to avoid complete loss of the road to the erosion.

Addressing the house during Monday’s plenary the member representing Ohafia North State Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Mandela Obasi in a motion of urgent public importance brough to the knowledge of the State Government the encroaching gully erosion at the Abiriba portion of the Ohafia-Umuahia Federal road, and prayed for urgent measure to curb the advancing gully which has caused several accidents and threatens to cause more this Yuletide season.

The Lawmaker took time to explain to the House members the dangers posed by the deep gully erosion at the major road connecting his constituency to neighboring communities and the state capital Umuahia, and urged the state to take urgent practical measures to prevent his constituency from being cut off from the rest of the state.

He further prayed the House to mandate the State Government through ABROMA to carryout palliative measures that will avert any further Loss of Lives on the Road. Also, to beseech the Federal Government to take care of that section of the road which is a Federal Road.

Responding, Speaker of Abia House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Chinedum Orji expressed worry on dangers posed by gully erosion across the state, especially during this festive period.

The matter was committed to the House Committee on the Whole to take a tour of erosion sites across the state and report back to the House in due course.
