Reports reaching OTV News through Ikechukwu Agbai of OYDA – Ohafia Youth Development Association has called on the relevant authorities to come to Ohafia rescue from the claws of EEDC.
According to the report, the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC, Ohafia District, have for a long time totally neglected their duties towards Ohafia residents. Citing few examples, he said that Timber-Shed in Ebem has been in total darkness for close to 6 months now without any possible remedy in sight.
The residents say their previous transformer developed issues last year due to overload and has to date not been fixed or replaced to alleviate the plight of the people.
He confirmed that the community people pooled resources together and bought a transformer which unfortunately EEDC has failed to come and install even when they are the ones saddled with the responsibility of providing the same. This makes one wonder if this is a deliberate act of irresponsibility to punish Shafia Community.
He said that the worst-case so far is that of Amaekpu. From Ngodo up to Mission Hill to Amafia and Amaoba have been in complete darkness for up to a year now. According to the residents of the area, the cables for their transformers got damaged and EEDC has done nothing about it.
“We have made several appeals to EEDC to come to our aid, but unfortunately our appeals have not been answered. We are putting this notice to our representatives at all levels to intervene on our behalf” He said.
